Belgium requires employers to appoint enough trained company first-aiders based on a company risk analysis rather than a fixed ratio, with at least one trained first-aider for group A, B and C companies of 20+ workers. First-aider training under the Codex, Book I, Title 5 includes a practical component and a yearly refresher (bijscholing) to keep the role.

Childcare is a Community-level competence: in Flanders the Licensing Decree of 22 Nov 2013 (arts. 40 and 43) requires every child carer and responsible person to hold a 'levensreddend handelen bij kinderen' certificate, renewed every 3 years, while the French Community's ONE order of 2 May 2019 relies on qualified diploma-holding staff without an explicit first-aid certificate. Certification is a licensing requirement in Flanders, overseen by Opgroeien (formerly Kind en Gezin).

Article 422bis of the Belgian Criminal Code creates a legal duty to rescue: failing to assist a person in grave danger is an offence, punishable only where one could have intervened without serious danger to oneself. There is no separate civil-immunity shield for the lay rescuer.

In Belgium the right to practise rests on a visa from the FPS Public Health, with mandatory continuing education (formation permanente) to keep particular professional titles, and certificates must be kept five years for inspection. Resuscitation training accredited by INAMI/RIZIV counts as a recognized continuing-education activity, so recognized CPR/AED, ACLS or PALS training meets the requirement.

In Belgian nursing homes (maison de repos / MRS / woonzorgcentrum), staff including care assistants (aide-soignant / zorgkundige) must be trained in first aid and emergency actions, overseen by the communities and regions. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets this requirement, in addition to occupational training, and is renewed periodically.

Foster care is a competence of the communities (accredited services in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Pleegzorg in Flanders), and no provision explicitly requires a first-aid certificate of foster families — the application requires a medical certificate of good health and a criminal-record extract. Current first-aid and CPR training is recommended in addition to the suitability assessment.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Belgium for personal, childcare-licensing and employer purposes, with theory delivered online and any practical component remaining in person. First-aider training includes a yearly refresher (bijscholing) to keep the role.
